Actuarial bursaries / Actuarial Funding

Part of our commitment to our trade is recognising that for one to be a master in their trade, support is a key ingredient.

That is why we offer bursaries to scholars who have enrolled to study Actuarial Science in 2023 as well as current students in their 1st/2nd/3rd year of Actuarial Science studies.

Who are we looking for

Undergraduate Studies

Current full time Actuarial Science students (SA citizens and non-SA citizens) who are in their 1st, 2nd or 3rd year of studies. If you demonstrate academic ability and a will to succeed, then you are just who we’re looking for.

School leaving learners who intend to study Actuarial Science in 2023

If you are a whiz at maths, enjoy a good challenge by solving difficult problems and are willing to remain focused and disciplined through years of studying and training, then you are just who we’re looking for.

If you are a South African citizen and you have an A in Maths (not Maths literacy) and Bs for all your other subjects in matric then you may be eligible to apply for the Old Mutual Actuarial Bursary. You need Mathematics with a strong A-plus result and A’s and B’s for the rest of your matric subjects. You must study at either the University of Cape Town, the University of Stellenbosch, the University of the Witwatersrand or the University of Pretoria.

  • You must be a South African citizen or a non-South African citizen
  • You must be currently in Matric and intend on studying full-time towards an Actuarial Science qualification in 2023 OR you must be a studying full-time towards an Actuarial Science qualification (in your 1st, 2nd or 3rd year of study)
  • Current undergraduate students: you must demonstrate academic ability and a will to succeed
  • Current Matric students: you must have achieved a minimum result of 90% for Mathematics and an overall average A symbol (final Matric results may be used as determining factor)
  • Current Matric students: you must have excellent Mathematical skills, be able to solve difficult problems and be committed to remaining focused and disciplined throughout your studies and training
  • Preference will be given to candidates from the designated groups (African, Coloured and Indian South Africans) as well as non-SA citizens on merit

ABOUT THE COMPANY – BLIND SA

Blind SA, originally known as the South African Blind Worker’s Organisation, was formed in 1946, with the purpose of helping the blind find meaningful careers. While this is still one of the organisations main goals, Blind SA has since gone on to placing blind people in jobs, establishing Braille Services, awarding bursaries, creating a skills development service, successfully lobbying and pursuing matters that concerns the blind.

ABOUT THE BLIND SA BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED

Blind SA is inviting blind and partially sighted students to apply for bursary funding. Bursaries are awarded twice each year, for full-time and part-time studies at tertiary institutions, to enable visually disabled students the same opportunities as their sighted peers.

Candidates will be selected based on 2 main criteria: merit and availability of funding.

Blind SA bursaries are made possible by donors who sponsor students at tertiary level around South Africa, from first year through to a postgraduate Masters degree.

Bursaries will be awarded to the value of R8 000 for full-time studies and R4 000 for part-time studies. Aside from financial aid, the bursary will also assist with special equipment, study material and transport.
